Erika Guevara Rosas, the Americas director at Amnesty International expresses concern ina CNN interview over the government’s decree to utilize forced labor on farms and adds that “this state of emergency… is giving more power to the armed forces.”

Jose Miguel Vivanco, the Americas director at Human Rights Watch writes in CNN that the Venezuelan government “has refused to acknowledge that there is a health and food crisis in Venezuela.” He adds that calls for dialogue “are futile so long as the government continues to target its opponents for repression and abuse.” Instead, “Maduro's administration should be pressed to allow the recall process to proceed without interference and to adopt serious measures to address the humanitarian crisis.”

Meanwhile, the UN Special Rapporteur on the right of freedom of opinion and expression is “deeply disturbed by the recent reports of attacks against journalists and independent mediagroups” in Venezuela.
