Opposition unites behind plan to remove Maduro

Venezuela’s Democratic Unity opposition coalition of around two dozen parties announces a campaign to oust President Maduro. The agreed three-pronged strategy is comprised of a recall referendum, a constitutional amendment and calls for Maduro to resign including street protests. Head of the Democratic Unity opposition Jesús Torrealba says “Change is coming and no one can stop it.”

The opposition-controlled Congress gives preliminary approval to a bill which would allow a presidential recall referendum. Meanwhile, appearing on TV, Maduro insists he will work towards the “great objectives of the economic recovery… And from there, they will not get rid of me, nor should they get rid of anyone.”
