Opposition Protestors Clash with Police Over Recall Referendum

Protestors in Caracas and other locations across the country demand that electoral authorities allow a recall referendum. Police fire tear gas at some protestors, who throw stones. In one demonstration, the crowd chants “freedom,” and in another, they hold signs saying “we don’t want to die of hunger.”

Opposition congress president Henrique Capriles is one of those caught up in the tear gas. He later warns at a rally, “If you obstruct the democratic way, we do not know what could happen in this country… Venezuela is a bomb that could explode at any moment.”
