Opposition leader María Corina Machado rejects new dialogue proposal

The Venezuelan opposition leader and coordinator of the Vente Venezuela movement, Maria Corina Machado, announced that the dialogue agreement between the government and the opposition presented by the mediators is "infamous" and that it seeks to perpetuate Nicolás Maduro in power until 2019.

"The dialogue is a crude and cruel maneuver by the regime and its representatives, called mediators, to ensure that Nicolás Maduro is secured at least until 2018," said the opposition leader.

During a press conference, Machado explained why, point by point, the new dialogue agreement -presented by the representatives of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) and former presidents José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Martín Torrijos and Leonel Fernández- is inappropriate.

Machado said that the document represents "the last pretense of these so-called mediators to force the opposition to surrender and give away the country", urging that the proposal be repudiated. "We Venezuelans will not accept a negotiation behind our backs."

"This document is an infamy and is rejected by the citizens who know that the only route to save Venezuela is the departure of Maduro and the defeat of tyranny," Machado said.
