Meeting on next stage of recall referendum postponed indefinitely

The regime-backed National Electoral Council (NEC) postpones a decision on the next stage of the recall referendum indefinitely. Maduro’s party claims that around 10,000 of the initial 1.85 million signatures collected within days, in support of a referendum are fraudulent. National Congress Deputy Speaker Enrique Marquez warns that the recall referendum is the only "escape valve" for social tension.

Meanwhile, Maduro says he is taking legal action against the opposition-controlled National Congress, accusing the body of encouraging international intervention, by asking the OAS to request an emergency meeting. He accuses them of violating the constitution and treason.
