Maduro’s approval rating at 9-month low, just 21.2%

President Maduro's approval rating fell to a nine-month low of 21.2 percent in July according to a local pollster Datanalisis, amid calls from government critics for a recall referendum next year.

In the international arena, Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Jose Serra said that “Democratic countries throughout the world should advocate for the referendum” in Venezuela. He added that “Maduro will not preside over [regional trading bloc] Mercosur, you can be sure of that,” with several Latin American countries opposing Venezuela’s scheduled presidency.

Meanwhile, India’s PM Narendra Modi looks likely to skip the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Caracas next month. It would be the first time that an Indian leader has missed the event since 1979.
