Maduro appoints new Interior Minister: Ex-general indicted in US on drugs charges

Maduro appoints Néstor Reverol, a former head of the Venezuelan anti-drug agency and director of the national guard, as Interior Minister. The day before, Reverol was indicted by the United States on drug-trafficking charges, accused of taking bribes in return for tipping off traffickers in advance of raids and turning blind eye to shipments. Maduro said the appointment was to show support in the face of “attacks from the empire.”
