Kerry Indicates Support for Opposition’s Regional Initiative Against Maduro Regime

US Secretary of State John Kerry says that Washington would “in principle” support an opposition move to apply the Inter-American Democratic Charter against Venezuela, which could suspend the country for an “interruption of the democratic order.” Kerry told Nuevo Herald that “Pressuring for a full democracy and a total respect to elections is always a good idea.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Venezuela took over the rotating presidency of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) from Uruguay at a summit of the regional bloc in Quito, Ecuador.
